Have St. Bernards earned a bad rep because of Cujo?

I don't have one but theres a lady down the street who does. I'm just curious because she walks him at about the same time i walk my dog everyday. Yesterday someone drove by, yelled an obscenity, and threw a water bottle at her dog. I've been around the dog and he is a very sweet dog, very loyal, and yet playful to almost like Beethoven! I personally dislike Cujo because i think it made some people think all St. Bernards are bad?
