Meeting new people..?

I moved to a new city 9 months ago, so i have been meeting new people allot lately. Honestly there isn't much reason to know most people, i'd rather have a couple of good friends with depth than heaps with nothing. So i find it hard to meet a girlfriend, as most women i meet seem to be shallow or obsessed with material things,i don't be rude to them, but just leave them to their own game. But really i don't know where to find a smart kind lady-friend. Like pubs and bars etc don't have many there, the girls there all seem either obsessed with you or think you'll stalk them or something. Like where are all the good ones? Some one who would challenge me or show me something new? I kind of decided not to have a girlfriend unless she is pretty freeking aw-sum, otherwise i see it as a waste of time, allot of love for allot more heartache. Where are the people who are worth meeting?? Feel free to criticize my opinion/views on the matter, maybe im thinking about it all wrong.
