Protection, or abstinence?

Okay. So, to my devastation i was diagnosed with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease the other day, and it is very likely i may not be able to have any more children (I already have 1. A 4 month old boy, but i want 2 more kids in the future.) Me and my fiancee' have not had since before my diagnosis. I can't remember if they told me to use protection until i finish my meds, or to abstain from altogether. And, pardon my french, i am incredibly horny!!! And i really don't feel like doing it myself. Does anyone know what they would have said? If you have PID, please help me out. Please, no rude comments. Thank you.
